WIDER INITIATIVE
Macedonian Music Heritage
Macedonian music deserves an enduring memory.
MK Music Archive is creating a foundation for documenting, preserving and understanding music heritage—with care, connected context and respect for sources.
Explore the projectScattered traces. Connected knowledge. Responsible memory.
01Why it is needed
The history is present. Its traces are vulnerable.
Physical releases, private collections, catalogues, photographs, documents and testimony live in different places. When collections become inaccessible, websites disappear or memories fade, the connections that explain music history can disappear with them.
Sources sometimes disagree. This heritage therefore needs an approach that preserves both what is known and what remains in question.

03What we are building now
MK MUSIC REGISTRY
More than a list of releases.
The Registry preserves important distinctions: a Release is the published edition; a Recording is a particular captured performance; a Track is that recording’s place on a release. The same recording can therefore be connected accurately across albums, singles or reissues.
Important information can be connected to a source, marked as approximate or disputed, and reviewed before any deliberate public presentation.
04How knowledge becomes trusted
The trail remains visible.
Research is not always linear: new evidence may reopen an earlier question. Every decision should nevertheless remain understandable and traceable.
- 01
Discover
A trace, object or question is identified.
- 02
Source
The origin of the information is described.
- 03
Research
Sources and context are compared.
- 04
Evidence
A source is connected to a particular claim.
- 05
Review
Quality, differences and uncertainty are assessed.
- 06
Approved knowledge
The editorial decision remains traceable.
- 07
Public presentation
Only an appropriate approved selection is published.
05Where we are now
Foundation before scale.
The approved model is defined, and development of the software solution for MK Music Registry is underway. Work proceeds through functional increments; this does not mean that a public Registry or digital archive is already available.

Software in development: Artist and Release functionality
CURRENT DEVELOPMENT FOCUS
Next functional goal in software development
The team is developing the software solution’s first complete working flow: finding or entering an Artist, then creating, saving and reopening a draft music Release. This is the functional scope of the current development phase.
